Programs

From first robot to real engineering

Every project fosters student independence. Start at Level 1 with no experience, or join at Level 2 if you’ve done robotics before.

Every project follows the engineering design cycle

Design thinking, engineering skills, and the habit of iterating.

  1. 1

    Define

Understand the problem and the constraints.

  2. 2

    Design & understand

Learn the science, sketch options, explain the choice.

  3. 3

    Build & test

Build it, then measure what actually happens.

  4. 4

    Improve Repeat

Use the results to refine, then go again.

Level 1We teach and show

Exploration

Hands-on intro bootcamp

A short, hands-on introduction. Students build their first robot and drive it with a game controller. No coding needed.

Best for: Curious beginners who want to see what robotics is really about.

What students learn and do

  • How motors, batteries, and controls fit together
  • Build a simple mobile robot, start to finish
  • Drive it with a game controller, no coding needed
Level 1 parts laid out on a table: a metal frame, four yellow motors, wheels, and screws
Level 2Your team builds

Accelerator

Team build, in groups of four

Teams of four build a mobile robot together. Each student owns a role, and the team improves the robot every week.

Best for: Students who learn by doing and want to build with a team.

What students learn and do

  • Build a mobile robot together, one role per student
  • Add a camera, and code the robot in Python to steer itself around a simple course
  • Use AI tools to write, test, and debug robot code
  • Test, debug, and improve the robot every week

Team roles

  • Design: sketches options and explains the engineering choices
  • Hardware: builds and wires the robot: motors, sensors, power
  • Software: writes and tests the code that controls it
  • Project lead: sets goals, tracks progress, runs the weekly test

Roles rotate, so every student builds, codes, and leads.

Adventure

A real engineering quest

Students lead an open-ended engineering challenge from idea to working robot, with expert guidance.

Best for: Students ready for a portfolio-worthy challenge.

What students learn and do

  • Take on an open-ended, real-world challenge
  • Design, test, and refine using real measurements
  • Add more sensors and machine learning to the robot
  • Teams present their final project to Silicon Valley tech leaders

Founding cohort

Reserve a spot in the founding cohort

Only 8 students per level, in two teams of four. Level 1 meets Sunday, November 15, 2026, 1–5 pm. Level 2 is scheduled around each team’s availability, and Level 3 in early 2027. Reserving is free. For Level 1, we confirm by Sunday, November 8, and you register and pay by Wednesday, November 11. If fewer than 4 students reserve, we’ll move to a later date and you pay nothing.

Sessions meet in Dr. Wang’s home robotics lab in Saratoga, near Saratoga High School. We share the exact address with families once they confirm and pay. Parents are welcome to stay for the first session.
